" Once everyone in our group was there that’s when the chaos started. The smell of hair spray filled the room, bottles of concealer and makeup fell to the ground. Girls changing and bobby pins being passed around. In all the chaos there was excitement. Bright, smiling faces, good luck and do your best coming from parents leaving to go find their seats. When everyone was ready we sat and waited. We were number 25 out of 46. The whole competition took about 3 hours. Then Mrs. Meredith went over the rules.
“Dances for large senior teen groups must be 3 minute 50 seconds,”
“Check!” everyone responded. We went back and forth checking the list.
“Routine must consist of ballet technique, classical steps and movements,”
“Check!”
“Appropriate costume,”
“Check!”
“Good those are all the main rules,” Mrs. Meredith said.
Later when there were 5 dances before we went on stage we went upstairs. We had to be SILENT. Before us there was a tap routine, Jazz routine, Hip hop, ballet, then salsa. Then we went on stage. When we got to our places we took our first pose. The bright lights hit my face and the music started. I saw the faces of the audience, looking at us. Mrs. Meredith watched us from the side of the stage. Our tutu's spun as we twirled around the stage. The judges watched us from the front at their table. I felt magical. Being on the stage again was amazing. I passed Liliana and we smiled at each other, adrenaline rushing. At the end of the dance we ballet walked of the stage and went back downstairs. As soon as we got down stairs and we were far out of earshot we celebrated.
"AH! We did so good!!" we said all so full of happiness.
"Your right. You all did amazing," Mrs. Meredith told us.
"What I didn't tell you was there was a scout in the audience," We were all so confused. She explained to us that the scout was looking for strong dancers to sign a letter of intent and attend their college when they graduate. We all bubbled up with excitement. Who would the scout pick? We all wondered. Liliana and I promised that if one of us was picked that we would be happy for each other. We didn't think that would happen because there was almost 200 dancers in the competition.
