The day I got my cast cut off, I was very nervous. The next day we we’re leaving for the competition. I went to dance class every day and learned the steps to our dance and reviewed it in my head.
As we walked down the long hallway all I could hear was footsteps, our footsteps. We went into the same room my cast was put on. Everything looked the same as it did last time we were here. Dr. Davis got out this small saw-like thing from the corner. I later learned it was called a cast saw.
“I know this looks a little scary but you won’t feel a thing, only vibration,” He said. I didn’t believe him. The machine started and the blade spun. I closed my eyes. Then my cast started shaking. Before I realized it my cast was gone and my bare leg was showing. It was a tad dirty because it hadn’t been washed for two weeks… It felt strange to move my ankle. The doctor talked to my mom and dad one last time before we left.
On the car ride home dad told me that the doctor said:
“I don't know if she will be able to dance,”He told her,
“If Hannah rests it until the dance competition it might be OK, but it probably hurt a little,” I didn’t care if it hurt. I’d been dreaming of the Indigo Dance Competition for years. I was not giving up.
