On Saturday it was mom’s birthday that year. We ate her favorite dinner, Chicken Parmesan.
After dinner we gave mom our presents. Dad got her a really cute card and a new cast iron skillet. Dad knows she loves to cook. Christian got mom a coupon for one free massage and pedicure.
“You deserve it more than anyone!” he told her. I got mom a new sweater and a funny card with a dancing dog. She loves dogs. That's why we got our beagle, Buster.
When I was 11 and Christian was 10 we went shopping for Christmas. We saw Buster in the pet adoption center window, his big, happy eyes looking at us, his small black nose pressed up against the glass.
For dessert we had mom’s favorite kind of cake, black forest cake that was kept in the fridge all day with milk.
That night I had to take my first shower with the cast on. Mom and Dad explained to me that I actually had to take a bath and keep a big plastic bag that the doctor gave us to keep the cast dry. It was so hard to get in the bath without completely dunking my cast in the water. Mom had to help me a little bit with things like washing my body while keeping my leg out of the water and handing me shampoo.
On Monday I skipped school and went to a checkup. The doctor just wanted to make sure my cast was clean and doing its job.
“Everything looks good and we are right on schedule,” Doctor Davis told us.
The next few weeks went by, I learned things like how to sleep with the cast & making sure I was not doing too many activities. Dad even took the afternoon off from work a few days one week so I wasn't alone at home. Victoria was being her normal annoying self. We had a little spat with her in English class. Liliana and I were passing notes and…
H: What was the assignment? Was not paying attention!
L: We have to write a 500 word report on proper grammar. UGH
H: OK Thanks
L: no problem
“Mrs. Tina! Hannah and Liliana are passing notes!” Vicky called out to our teacher.
“All three of you come to my desk this instant!” she demanded
“The Vicky Viper bites again,” Liliana whispered to me
Mrs. Tina let us off with a warning that time. We shot Victoria an evil look and class carried on.
